The Palghar district of Maharashtra saw a 70-year-old woman being fatally beaten with a wooden rod by her grandson, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, according to police on Tuesday.
They said that after the woman was killed on Monday night in her Umbarwadi village in Jawhar taluka, the accused was taken into custody.
“Dharmaveer Vaze, 23, overheard his grandmother Anandi Tokhre grumbling and whispering to herself while he was eating dinner at home. Because of this, he became enraged and killed her instantly by striking her with a wooden rod, according to a Jawhar police station official.
The accused was under the influence of liquor at the time of incident, he said.
Inspector Sanjay Bramhane of the Jawhar police station stated that a murder charge under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 was filed and that the victim’s body was taken to a government hospital for a post-mortem.
He said that a police squad was called and quickly arrived at the scene to apprehend the accused.
