Nishikant Dubey of the BJP queries the behaviour of the Muslim MP the day after he was abused.

Nishikant Dubey, a member of the BJP, today condemned his partymate Ramesh Bidhuri for making anti-Semitic statements about another lawmaker, but he also demanded an investigation into the behaviour of the legislator who was the target.

Danish Ali of Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party was regularly subjected to Mr. Bidhuri’s abuse and insults, which prompted Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to issue a warning. His remarks were removed from the files.

Mr. Dubey claimed that Mr. Bidhuri’s remarks were inappropriate for a civilised society.

The comment made by Ramesh Bidhuri in the Lok Sabha cannot be accepted by any civilised society. There can be no adequate censure for this. But the Lok Sabha Speaker also has to look into the inappropriate language and actions of MP Danish Ali, Mr. Dubey wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to him, violating Lok Sabha rules and protocol includes sitting and speaking during an MP’s designated time, interrupting them, and providing running commentary.

The BJP has handed Mr. Bidhuri a show-cause notice, requesting that he respond to it within 15 days or face a significant response from the opposition. Shortly after the exchange, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh apologised in front of the House.

When speaking to NDTV yesterday, an emotional Mr. Ali, who was on the edge of sobbing, said he’s thinking of “leaving” the parliament if Mr. Bidhuri isn’t held accountable. He claimed that he was unable to sleep because he felt as though his brain was about to “explode.”

Was this extraordinary session of the legislature arranged in order to criticise elected MPs by equating them with their community? The entire nation is ashamed as a result. We’ll watch to see if his party works to promote or punish him. This constitutes hate speech, according to Mr. Ali, who sent a letter to the Speaker requesting that Mr. Bidhuri be punished.

A number of letters, including those from the Congress, DMK, and Trinamool, to the Speaker requesting severe action against Mr. Bidhuri, have been sent in response to the incident, which has become a new focal point for the Opposition in its fight against the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and other members of the Congress visited Mr. Ali at home last night. The former posted a picture of Mr. Ali being hugged on social media. In this marketplace of hatred, there is a store of love, Mr. Gandhi penned beside, “Nafrat ke bazaar mein, mohabbat ki dukkan.”
