New Delhi: Arvinder Singh Lovely was appointed President of the Delhi Congress in August of last year.
Arvinder Singh Lovely, the chief of the Congress party’s Delhi branch, resigned today over the party’s partnership with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Arvinder Singh Lovely stated that while some AAP ministers have been imprisoned on corruption charges, the Congress made an alliance with them for the Lok Sabha elections despite resistance from party supporters.
In a letter to Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Mr Lovely stated that because he is unable to protect the interests of Delhi Congress workers, he sees no reason to remain as the city’s party unit chief.
“The Delhi Congress Unit opposed an alliance with a party (AAP) founded solely to bring false, manufactured, and malicious corruption claims against the Congress. Regardless, the party decided to form an alliance with the AAP in Delhi,” he remarked.
He claimed that the party offered Lok Sabha tickets to candidates who were “total strangers” to the Delhi Congress unit, referring to Udit Raj’s nomination in North-West Delhi and Kanhaiya Kumar in Northeast Delhi.
According to insiders, the decision by the party’s high leadership to field Kanhaiya Kumar and Udit Raj in the elections has caused friction among party leaders in Delhi.
