BCCI announces Gautam Gambhir-as-new-India-head-coach

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has got a new head coach. The BCCI has announced Gautam Gambhir as the head coach. Former Indian team opener Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of India. 42-year-old Gambhir was part of the Indian team that won the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. Along with this, KKR won the IPL 2024 title under his mentorship. Kolkata has also become the IPL champion twice under his captaincy.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah posted on social media and announced the appointment of Gambhir as the head coach. He wrote- I am very happy to welcome Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Cricket has evolved very rapidly in modern times and Gautam has seen this changing scenario very closely. He has played his role by facing many challenges throughout his career. I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to take Indian cricket forward.

Gambhir’s coaching experience

Gautam Gambhir started his coaching career with Lucknow Super Giants in IPL. He joined the team as a mentor in 2022. Apna Lucknow had reached the playoffs for two consecutive seasons. After this he joined Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR won the IPL 2024 title. Since then there were reports that Gambhir would become the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Gautam Gambhir’s international career

Gautam Gambhir played his first match for India in 2003. In his career, he played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20 matches. He has more than 10 thousand runs in international cricket. Gambhir, who played his last match for India in 2016, announced his retirement in 2018.
