Two killed, 20 injured as 18 coaches of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derail in Jharkhand

18 coaches of train number 12810 Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday morning. Two people are reported dead in the incident. At the same time, 20 passengers were injured. Out of the total injured, five people have suffered minor injuries and they were treated on the spot itself. However, some passengers have been admitted to the hospital. This train, which left Howrah on Monday night, met with an accident on Tuesday morning. Chakradharpur Railway Division PRO said that arrangements are being made for the train to send the passengers.

Police said that the accident took place at 3:45 am near Barabambo, about 80 km from Jamshedpur. This place is very close to West Singhbhum. 18 out of 22 coaches of Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed near Barabambo. One passenger died in coach B4. At the same time, another person is reported to be trapped in the same coach. It has been told that there were a total of 16 passenger coaches, one was a pantry car, while one was a power car. Medical aid was provided to the injured in Barabambo. They are now being taken to Chakradharpur for better treatment. He said that the rescue operation is going on.

An administrative official said that this railway accident took place at Potobeda in Kharsawan block of Seraikela-Kharsawan district. A spokesperson of the South-Eastern Railway said that a goods train also derailed near the spot. However, it is not clear whether these incidents happened at the same time or at different times.

Divisional Commissioner of West Singhbhum, Kuldeep Chaudhary, said that two people have died in the incident, while 20 people are injured. A team of NDRF has been called for relief and rescue work. The place where this incident happened is close to the borders of West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan. A help desk has been set up at Howrah Railway Station after the Howrah-Mumbai Express derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand. Meanwhile, five trains have been cancelled due to the accident, while four trains have been decided to be sent or stopped from the previous/next station.

Indian Railways has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. A compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the seriously injured. Meanwhile, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Mukesh Lunayat said that the police received information about this incident at 4.02 am. All the injured have been rescued and admitted to the hospital. The NDRF team has also reached here. More than 300 policemen have been deployed at the spot. Relief and rescue work has been completed and now the tracks have to be repaired.
