Leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), N Chandrababu Naidu, took the oath of office as Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister on Wednesday, inaugurating his fourth term en office. It is just a few months since his incarceration in a money laundering case that he has made this incredible political return. Prominent political heavyweights including as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and well-known celebrities like Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi attended the swearing-in event in Vijayawada.
Naidu was arrested in connection with a purported skill development fraud, but after being freed on bond, he led the TDP to a decisive triumph in the state assembly elections. An important victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh was achieved by the TDP in coalition with the BJP and the Jana Sena Party.
‘Power Star,’ the leader of the Jana Sena Party, also took an oath of office as a Cabinet Minister at the event. Nineteen other people, including Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, were sworn in with Kalyan. Three Cabinet slots were given to the Jana Sena, while Satya Kumar Yadav was the only BJP leader appointed to the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet. The TDP and its supporters were notably present in the state assembly, which has 26 ministries total, including the Chief Minister.
The NDA won a massive win in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, taking 164 of the 175 seats. Just the TDP garnered 135 seats, with the BJP taking eight and Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena gaining 21. With just 11 seats, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was able to drastically cut its majority.
The Telugu Desam Legislature Party and its allies officially chose Naidu to be their leader during a meeting on Tuesday.
