Actor-turned-politician Divya Spandana, also known as Ramya, responded to the arrest of fellow Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa on suspicion of murder.
Darshan and twelve other people were taken into custody following the discovery of 33-year-old Renuka Swamy’s body in a Bengaluru drain. According to the allegations, Mr. Swamy was criticizing and posting things about Darshan’s girlfriend Pavithra Gowda, who was also detained.
That “no one is above the law” was stated by Ms. Spandana in a lengthy Instagram post. “No one ought to become an advocate for the law. You don’t just go around killing people with beatings. Whether you think justice will be served or not, a straightforward complaint would be sufficient,” she stated.
She also expressed her gratitude for the Karnatka police officers’ efforts in the same post. “A note of gratitude and deference for the police officers performing their jobs. It’s a selfless work. They’re trying their hardest, too. I sincerely hope they resist political party pressure and restore public confidence in the rule of law and justice,” she wrote.
“#JusticeforRenukaswamy #Darshan #Yedyurappa #Prajwal Revanna” was how the actor concluded the post.
The actor also posted on X about the issuance of an arrest warrant for former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa due to allegations of sexual assault.
However, Darshan’s co-actor, Sanjjanaa Galrani, has come out in support of the Kannada film star, calling his arrest “doomsday” for the industry.
“This has been a black day for us yesterday, and it’s been like a doomsday for the Kannada industry. He is demigod figure in the Kannada industry.,” she told NDTV.
It is premature to jump the gun. If a celebrity is involved in something similar, even a 5% allegation escalates to a 500% allegation. We shouldn’t make snap judgments and instead respect the legal system,” she stated.
According to police, Darshan had asked three men to accept financial compensation for taking responsibility for the crime. The men were offered five lakh rupees each by the actor, who was arrested on Tuesday, to come forward and confess to the crime.
