The unconventional director Karan Johar is back with a lovely family drama that is never dull for even a single frame. He has been away from the director’s chair for seven long years. The major leads of the film, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, have elicited a thunderous response from viewers. The public had already responded favorably to the trailer and songs, and now the film is doing well at the box office. In addition to Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, and Dharmendra play prominent roles in this Pritam-composed film. With the help of gorgeous tunes, exotic locales, passionate feelings, and larger-than-life sets, Karan Johar not only effectively depicts cultural differences but also conveys some significant social themes.
The movie takes place in Delhi. Rani Chatterjee (Alia Bhatt) and Rocky Randhawa (Ranveer Singh), who come from separate households. They fall in love as expected, but it is difficult to persuade their families. In order to persuade them, they devise a strategy and choose to live with opposing families and switch places. While Shabana Azmi is a member of one family and Jaya Bachchan of another. As if that weren’t enough, there is yet another surprising undertone plot being cooked. The movie’s plot is around how Rocky and Rani persuade their families and ultimately succeed in finding true love.
The film now has a 3.7/5 rating on Google and a 6.6/10 rating on IMDb. The reviews from the audiences for the films are also overwhelmingly good, with phrases like “The old magic of Bollywood is back,” “The claps and the whistles in theaters says it all,” etc.
The extravagant production design of the movie is one of its outstanding features. Every scene appears lavish, and Manish Malhotra’s outfits are excellent. Karan Johar has taken a tale with strong family values without taking a chance. The way he has framed the conflict is really intriguing. The movie doesn’t claim any unique story elements. Many of the moments resemble Dil Raju’s Bommarillu in a way. But what gives the movie its youthful appearance on paper is the sugar floss Karan Johar uses to tell it.
The box office success of Karan Johar’s movie has largely been attributed to favorable reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations. According to trade expert Taran Adarsh, the movie made Rs 16.05 crore on Saturday after debuting with Rs 11.1 crore. This is an increase of over 45%. The movie’s two-day earnings now total Rs. 27.15 crore. Tier 2 centers have shown significant trends on Day 2, but Day 3 offers the potential for significant gains. If Tier 3 centers join in on Day 3, #RRKPK ought to complete its first weekend on a high note.
As far as the opening day collections of 2023 Hindi films are concerned, KJo’s film is the 5th best opening of the year. According to Bollywood Hungama, the top four are Pathaan (Rs 57 crore), Adipurush (Rs 36 crore), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Rs 15.81 crore) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore). However, it is expected that the film will grow in the coming days.
