Delhi Airport's Terminal 1

At least one person was killed and eight others were injured after a portion of the ceiling at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1 fell early on Friday. In addition, there was a brief halt to all aircraft departures from the terminal.

This happens on a day that has witnessed constant rain in the capital of the country; as of 8:30 a.m. today, Safdarjung base station had recorded 228.1 mm of rain in the previous 24 hours.

“Due to the heavy rain that has been falling since early this morning, a portion of the canopy at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1’s old Departure forecourt collapsed around five in the morning.” “There have been reports of injuries, and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected,” a Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) official said.
