Amid a conflict with the centre, Arvind Kejriwal seeks a meeting with Rahul Gandhi

Today, Arvind Kejriwal announced that he has asked to meet with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the Congress’ support in the house for the Centre’s executive order restricting the power of Delhi officials.

“Sought time this morning to meet Congress President Kharge ji and Rahul Gandhi ji to seek Congress support in Parliament against undemocratic and unconstitutional ordinance passed by the BJP government and also to discuss the general assault on the federal structure and prevailing political situation,” the Delhi Chief Minister tweeted.

In the midst of efforts to unite opposition groups against the BJP ahead of the 2024 general election, Mr. Kejriwal made a rare outreach to the Congress.

In order to gather enough support to attempt and oppose the Center’s law on the control of Delhi bureaucrats, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief has been meeting with various figures.

The law would take the place of an ordinance that was issued last week to defy a recent ruling by the Supreme Court that stated the Centre, not the elected government in Delhi, controls the transfer and appointment of bureaucrats.

On whether to support AAP in this regard, the Congress has previously stated that it will speak with its regional leaders first.
