One person was killed when the ceiling of Terminal 1 of the Delhi airport collapsed on Friday. The Congress then charged that the BJP administration was engaging in life-threatening corruption.

News from Delhi Airport: In his new role as Union Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu comes up against his first obstacle. After a section of the roof outside Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi fell and killed someone, the opposition focused on Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the opposition, PM Modi opened the Terminal’s extended part during his March election campaign, but it has since collapsed.

Victim Compensation and Passenger Refunds

Naidu said that the relatives of the deceased will get an ex gratia payment of Rs 20 lakh, while the injured would receive Rs 3 lakh. The incident compelled the airport administration to halt all activities at Terminal 1. Passengers experienced extreme inconvenience as a result. According to a representative for the airport, check-in counters have been shuttered for safety reasons, and all departures from Terminal 1 have been temporarily halted until at least 2:00 PM.

In the meanwhile, airlines were directed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to issue full refunds or substitute flights for customers. Certain flights had to be canceled as a result of Terminal 1’s flight operations being suspended. According to an IndiGo representative cited by news agency PTI, “passengers already inside the terminal will be able to board their planned flights, but those with flights later in the day will be offered alternatives.”

SpiceJet said in an X post that planes affected by Terminal 1’s service stoppage will now be accommodated at Terminal 3.

Congress Attacks PM Modi-Led Center Over Roof Collapse at Delhi Airport

Congress politician Jairam Ramesh shared a picture from a journalist pointing out that PM Modi launched the T1’s extended departure area in March. He said, “On March 11, 2024, as part of His election campaign if I recall during His inauguration spree.” “Corruption and criminal negligence is responsible for the collapse of shoddy infrastructure falling like a deck of cards, in the past 10 years of Modi Govt.” claimed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, criticizing the Modi administration. “Our sincere sympathies to the victims of the Delhi airport disaster. Modi ji referred to himself as ‘Doosri mitti ka insaan’ when he opened the Delhi Airport T1 on March 10th. In an X post, Kharge stated, “They suffered the brunt of a Corrupt, Inept, and Selfish Govt.”

According to Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, the minister of civil aviation, the section that fell was an older element of the airport structure. “We are treating this as a major occurrence. The building that fell here is an old structure that was opened in 2009, and the building that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated is on the other side,” he stated.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari responded to this, nevertheless, by saying: “Even though it was maintained by them for ten years, it was unable to withstand the first rain.” The Modi government is entirely to blame for the same doom that awaits them.”

Naidu went on to say, “Heavy rains have caused a portion of the canopy outside the airport to fall. We offer our condolences to the families of the victims of this awful event, in which four lives have also been lost. Therefore, we are now taking care of them. We dispatched the NDRF, CISF, and emergency response teams as well as the fire safety team right away. Everyone was on hand at the scene, and they conducted a comprehensive check to make sure there were no more victims. Thus, for the time being, everything are under control. “To ensure that there are no more unfortunate incidents here, the remainder of the terminal building has been closed and everything is being carefully inspected.”
