Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s appeal: “Vote Us Or Not, At Least Come To My Funeral”

Congress President M Mallikarjun Kharge today made an emotional plea to the residents of his home district of Kalaburagi, asking them to show up to his funeral if they felt he served them, even if they do not want to support the party’s candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The 81-year-old added that he would believe he had “no place” in Kalaburagi if people did not support the Congress candidate during a poll rally in this district at Afzalpur.

In an attempt to unseat BJP MP Umesh Jadhav, the Congress has put forward Radhakrishna Doddamani, Kharge’s son-in-law from Kalaburagi.

Mr. Kharge, who won the Lok Sabha elections here in 2009 and 2014 but lost in 2019, said, “If you miss your vote this time (if you don’t vote for the Congress candidate), I will think that I don’t have any place here for me and I could not win your heart.”

“Whether you vote for us (Congress) or not, but at least come to my funeral if you think that I have done for Kalaburagi,” stated the head of the Congress.
