PM Modi Pays Tribute To Jawaharlal Nehru On Death Anniversary

On the 59th anniversary of his passing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

“On the anniversary of his passing, I pay tribute to our former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,” PM Modi wrote on Twitter.

In India’s war for independence, Jawaharlal Nehru played a significant role. After India gained independence in 1947, he later went on to become its first Prime Minister.

Mr. Nehru was one of the primary figures of the Indian National Congress (INC), which led the fight to liberate India from British control. The first Prime Minister of India passed away on May 27, 1964. From 1947 to 1964, when he died at age 74, he served as prime minister. Children used to refer to him as Chacha Nehru because he had a special affection for them.

Every year in India, on November 14, the anniversary of Mr. Nehru’s birth is also observed as Children’s Day.
