New Delhi: The Lok Sabha proceedings began on a furious note today with Rahul Gandhi protesting in the House over the National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test (NEET) row and asking for a quick decision on it.
The House observed some unusual scenes as Rahul Gandhi claimed his microphone was turned off and requested the speaker to switch it on, to which the letter gave a prompt rejoinder. The viral video and photos showing the Congress MP and speaker moving back and forth have been shared by the Congress on X.
At the time of reassembly around noon, Rahul Gandhi and his party leaders in the Lok Sabha, commanded a respectful discussion on the NEET issue to show seclusion with the students.
Speaker Om Birla advised the Congress Party to explain its norms and protocols to the House.
However, Mr. Gandhi and the Opposition carried on with the demand and said: “We want to give a message to the government and students of India that we consider this is an important issue, so we thought that to respect the students, we should have a NEET discussion today,”
Om Prakash Birala gave a response to Rahul Gandhi, “I don’t have any button to mute the microphone. There existed a similar set-up earlier. There is no mechanism to muzzle the microphone.”
The Congress party posted a video that shows Mr Gandhi asking the speaker to switch on his microphone. Congress claimed that there was a conspiracy to silence the voices of students.
“While Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains silence on the NEET discussion like he has nothing to say, Rahul Gandhi is protecting the youth in the Parliament House. Moreover, on such a serious issue, a conspiracy is being done to hide the voice of youth by switching off the microphone in the parliament”. Rahul claimed to the speaker of the parliament for this conspiracy.
Notably, the NEET (UG) 2024, is conducted in several cities as well as abroad. Over 25 lakh students and medical aspirants appeared for the examination. Anyhow, it got marred by the paper leak controversy, thereby putting the future of many students in danger.
