Voting for the second of seven phases of the 2024 India elections began at 7 a.m. on Friday in 88 seats spanning 12 states and one Union territory (Jammu and Kashmir). Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor of the Congress party are among the high-profile candidates in this phase; both are running for re-election in Kerala’s Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively; all 20 seats in the southern state are up for grabs today.

Hema Malini of the BJP will be hoping for a hat-trick in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Overall, 1202 candidates compete in these 88 seats, with 158.8 million (15.88 crore) eligible voters, including 32.8 million (3.28 crore) young voters and 3.4 million (34 lakh) first-timers.

This leg’s polling locations are as follows: Kerala (20/20), Karnataka (14/28), Rajasthan (13/25), Uttar Pradesh (8/80), Maharashtra (8/48), Madhya Pradesh (6/29), Assam (5/14), Bihar (5/40), Chhattisgarh (3/11), West Bengal (3/42), Manipur (1/2), Tripura (1/2), and Jammu (1/5).
