DELHI: The capital of India, which was already facing the hindrance of water supply along with this heat waves of weather. Now, we saw a new hindrance of electricity in several areas of Delhi for nearly 1.5 to 2 hours on Tuesday. It happened because of a snag at a substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd( PGCIL) in Uttar Pradesh.
Several parts of East, North and central Delhi, including water treatment plants at Sonia Vihar and others also faced electricity outages, power minister Atishi said. Some of the areas that faced the problem like ITO, Rohini, Lajpat Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Sabzi Mandi, and Kashmiri Gate.
In front of the press conference, Atishi said, “There is an electricity crisis in many areas of Delhi from 2.11 pm. This is due to a fire at the substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd in Uttar Pradesh. Delhi receives 1200 MW of power from the Mandola substation, so many parts were affected yesterday.
She said that the power restoration process had started and after some time power will be returning to different areas. “But this major problem is that the incident happened in the National Power Grid. I am seeking a meeting with the Union Power Minister and the Chief Minister of PGCIL, to ensure that such an accident isn’t repeated”.
Additionally, she said the power across the world is temporarily restored. Although the Uttar Pradesh government denied that there was any fire in PGCIL, there is one spark in the system that caused this, it happened around 2;10 pm and was resolved around 3; 00pm, PGCIL is located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Delhi’s temperature was around 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
