Today at 7 am, the fifth round of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections of 2024 will go to vote. Six ninety-nine states and union territories will have 49 seats (General-39, ST-03, and SC-07) where voters will select 695 candidates. In terms of the total number of seats for which voting will be held, this is the lowest phase. On Monday, there will be simultaneous voting in 35 Odisha Legislative Assembly assembly seats.
In the fifth phase, a number of prominent contenders are vying for office: union minister Smriti Irani, who is considering a second term from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh; union ministers Rajnath Singh (Lucknow) and Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North); Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress (Rae Bareli); Chirag Paswan, the leader of the LJP (Ram Vilas) (Hajipur); Shrikant Shinde, the son of Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde (Kalyan); National Conference leader Omar Abdullah (Baramulla); and Rohini Acharya, the daughter of RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav (Saran).

There are 4.69 crore male voters, 4.26 crore female votes, and 5,409 third-gender voters out of the total 8.95 crore voters.
The Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Amethi and Rae Bareli, which are associated with the Gandhi family of the Congress party, will be the center of attention. Rahul Gandhi is running against BJP horticulture minister Dinesh Pratap Singh from his home borough of Rae Bareli. Gandhi won the Wayanad seat in Kerala but lost the Amethi seat to Smriti Irani in 2019.
On Saturday, May 18, the Lok Sabha elections’ fifth phase campaign came to a close. May 3 was the deadline for submitting nominations for this stage.
As of right now, around 66.95% of voters have participated in the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024, according to the Election Commission. Over 451 million voters have cast ballots in the first four stages of the current general election.
