Following directions from the Department of Women and Child Development, 223 Delhi Commission for Women staff were terminated with immediate effect on Thursday.

The decision was granted with the permission of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, based on an inquiry report presented to him in 2017.

According to the study, Swati Maliwal, the then-chairperson of DCW, reportedly hired these individuals without the consent of the finance department or the Lieutenant Governor.

According to the decision, only 40 jobs were sanctioned under the DCW Act, and no clearance was sought for the appointment of additional members.

According to the order, the DCW lacked the authority to hire them on a contract basis.

The ruling said that the DCW did not follow proper procedures when appointing the workers and that no research was performed to “assess the actual requirement of additional staff and eligibility criteria for each post.”

It stated that no administrative authority or spending sanction was sought from the Government of NCT Delhi for the recruitment of personnel, and no applications for the positions were issued.

The ruling further said that people hired for the positions were not allocated any tasks or responsibilities.
