A guy with a sword was apprehended in Hainault, east of London, after several individuals were attacked and injured, the Metropolitan Police said Tuesday.
The police said they were summoned just before 7:00 a.m. (0600 GMT) when a car rammed into a residence and there were reports of “people being stabbed.”
“At this time we understand the suspect went on to attack other members of the public and two police officers,”
The London Ambulance Service stated its personnel treated five people and transported them all to the hospital. There was no immediate news on their status.
The Metropolitan Police, which polices an area of 620 square miles (1,605 square kilometres) in Greater London, said a 36-year-old male was apprehended at the site.
According to Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, “This incident does not appear to be terror-related.”
Video video and images shared on social media claimed to show a guy on the streets near residences with a Samurai-style sword.
Emergency vehicles such as police, fire, and ambulances were observed behind cordons, particularly near the town’s underground station.
According to official figures, knife crime in London surged by 20% in 2023, with 14,577 offences, one percent lower than pre-pandemic levels in the year to March 2020.
Knife crime in England and Wales increased by 7% to 49,489 crimes, with metropolitan regions accounting for the majority (29%) of the rise, according to the Official National Statistics.
