Leading figures in the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) started frantic discussions on Thursday at the third two-day joint meeting of the alliance in Mumbai to lay out a specific plan of attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led administration for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The chief ministers of Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar reportedly urged the coalition leaders to “take quick decisions” at the informal meeting, and their Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal also indicated that seat-sharing negotiations should begin at the state level. A number of the bloc’s leaders also urged against calling an early general election, which is scheduled for April or May of 2024.
“Leaders of 28 parties attended the summit, and discussions on a number of important issues took place. On Friday, there will be a news conference. Additionally, the logo was expected to be unveiled, but that is also under discussion. After the informal INDIA alliance meeting, NCP leader Anil Deshmukh announced that there would be another meeting Friday morning after breakfast.
The combined opposition met for the first time on June 23 in Patna, and for the second time on July 17 and 18 in Bengaluru.
