24-year-old British man detained after scaling South Korean skyscraper

On Monday, a British man made an attempt to climb the fifth-tallest building in the world without using ropes. However, South Korean authorities ordered him to stop more than halfway up the 123-story Lotte World Tower in Seoul.
The 24-year-old man, who was dressed in shorts, spent more than an hour climbing the famous tower as police and fire personnel gathered below.

According to a fire department official, when he got to the 73rd story, authorities forced him to enter the building by forcing him into a maintenance cradle. He was then taken into jail by police to be questioned, the official added.

An immediate comment from the police was not available.

George King-Thompson was named by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper as the man. For climbing the Shard building in London in 2019, according to British media, he was detained and sentenced to prison.

In 2018, while “French Spiderman” Alain Robert was climbing the Lotte World Tower, authorities detained him. He was already halfway up the tower.
