3 Marriages, ₹ 1.25 Crore: How ‘Looting Bride’ Targeted Rich Men

A woman was apprehended by the police over a decade after orchestrating a series of fraudulent marriages to extort settlements amounting to ₹ 1.25 crore. Identified as Seema, also known as Nikki, a resident of Uttarakhand, her scheme began in 2013 when she married a businessman from Agra. Shortly after, she filed a legal case against his family and secured ₹ 75 lakh through a compromise settlement.

In 2017, Seema married a software engineer from Gurugram, eventually obtaining ₹ 10 lakh from him as a settlement after their separation.

Her most recent victim was a Jaipur-based businessman, whom she married in 2023. However, she soon fled his residence, stealing jewellery and cash valued at ₹ 36 lakh. Following a complaint from the family, Jaipur Police arrested her.

Investigations revealed Seema’s modus operandi involved targeting men on matrimonial websites, often those who were divorced or widowed. By operating across different states, she managed to extract a total of ₹ 1.25 crore through fraudulent settlements.
