4,000 People, 108 Locations: Gujarat Sets World Record For Surya Namaskar

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Gujarat as the state achieved recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of individuals simultaneously performing Surya Namaskar. Expressing his appreciation on X platform, PM Modi highlighted the significant accomplishment that marked the beginning of 2024.

“Gujarat commenced 2024 with an extraordinary achievement by securing a Guinness World Record for the largest synchronized Surya Namaskar performance across 108 venues! Acknowledging the cultural significance of the number 108, this milestone event included participants at the iconic Modhera Sun Temple. The widespread participation reflects our deep commitment to yoga and preservation of our cultural heritage,” stated PM Modi.

He further urged everyone to make Surya Namaskar a part of their daily routine.

He also encouraged everyone to incorporate Surya Namaskar into their daily routines, emphasizing its immense benefits.

On the morning of January 1, 2024, a remarkable event unfolded as over 4,000 participants engaged in the iconic sun salutation yoga sequence across 108 locations and 51 diverse categories. This collective effort underscored the state’s dedication to well-being and cultural heritage.

The record-setting gathering took place at the majestic Modhera Sun Temple, attracting enthusiastic participation from various groups, including families, students, yoga enthusiasts, and even senior citizens.

Present at the celebrations in Modhera were Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi.

Guinness World Records Adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar remarked, “I was here to verify the record for the most people doing Surya Namaskar. This is a new title because no one had attempted to break this record before. After going through all the evidence and witnessing their performance here in Modhera… They have successfully set a new Guinness World Record title for the most people doing Surya Namaskar.”

Expressing pride, Gujarat Home Minister Sanghavi stated, “Today, Gujarat has achieved the first world record of the country and the world, where thousands of people have practiced yoga together at 108 places and in 51 different settings.”
