Leading wrestlers, like Vinesh Phogat, petition SC to file a FIR against the WFI chief

After charges of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh surfaced, prominent wrestlers—including Vinesh Phogat—moved the Supreme Court to request the filing of a FIR against him.

Under Article 32, a writ petition has been submitted on behalf of the wrestlers, including a minor. The request demanded that the FIR be filed against the WFI director and given to the commissioner of the Delhi Police.

The petition claims that despite significant charges, such as POCSO (Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences), being brought against the WFI president, there was an excessive delay in registering the FIR against him.

Since about three months ago, the wrestlers and Brij Bhushan Singh have been engaged in conflict.

On April 23, the wrestlers protested at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which included Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat.

In another tweet, Phogat stated that despite numerous attempts, no FIR had been filed against the WFI president with the Delhi Police.

Back in January, people like Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik accused the head of the federation of abusing players sexually.

The WFI president, according to Phogat, is accused of harassing female wrestlers on a long-term basis. In order to fully investigate the situation, the authorities established a commission that included senior wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Mary Kom. The report has not yet been made public, though.
