Since the Asia Cup began in 1984, India and Pakistan have faced off 16 times.
When India and Pakistan face off against one other in Group A of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday in Kandy, their rivalry is expected to resurface. At the Pallekele International Stadium, India and Pakistan will clash for the first time ever. Hotels and other accommodations in the Central Province’s capital have all sold out of tickets for the thrilling game. It is more than just a game when it comes to the cricket match between India and Pakistan.
Fans from both nations are also involved in this cricketing extravaganza because of the emotions surrounding this match. The players on both sides, though, have a great deal of respect for one another despite their differing political views.
However, this doesn’t alter the fact that both teams would prefer to come out on top.
Here is how both sides have historically performed while facing off against one another in the Asia Cup as India and Pakistan prepare to take the cricket pitch.
Since the Asia Cup’s start in 1984, India and Pakistan have faced off 16 times. Only three of the 13 matches—of which 13 were played in the conventional One-Day format—were played in the shortest format.
Although Pakistan prevailed in the previous match last year in Dubai, India has historically and more recently been the more powerful side.
Rohit Sharma’s team has a psychological advantage over its ferocious opponents thanks to four victories in the last five games.
Pakistan has only won six games overall, five ODIs and one T20I, compared to India’s nine victories (7 ODIs and two T20Is).
