On Monday, Manisha Padhi, an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer from the 2015 batch, rose to the position of Aide-de-Camp (ADC), becoming the nation’s first female officer in that role.
Squadron Leader Padhi was named the ADC from the armed forces by Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on November 29. The short ceremony took place at the Raj Bhawan in the state capital of Aizawl.
“Mizoram Governor’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) is Manisha Padhi, the Squadron Leader. “The Governor’s office in Mizoram announced in an official release that Squadron Leader Manisha is the first female Indian Armed Forces officer to be appointed as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of the country.”
The post-nominal letters ADC are awarded to both current and former aides-de-camp, as in India, where the title is considered an honor.
The President typically has five aides-de-camp (three from the Army and one each from the Navy and Air Force), while the service chiefs, which include the chief of the Army, Navy, and Air Staff, typically have three.
