Gangster Sharad Mohol was shot and killed on Friday in Pune by members of his own gang, according to the police.
Three handguns, three magazines, and five rounds were taken from a car on the Pune-Satara road, where eight suspects were detained, according to an official.
Mohol, 40, was shot at point blank range by three to four attackers in the Sutardara neighborhood of Kothrud at 1:30 p.m. According to the police official, two bullets entered his right shoulder and one pierced his chest.
The official said that he passed away while receiving care at a Kothrud private hospital.
Mohol was the subject of multiple cases, including murder and dacoity. He was charged in this case concerning the killing of alleged Indian Mujahideen agent Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui inside the Yerawada jail, but he was found not guilty.
According to the official, his death was most likely caused by a conflict within his gang over money and land.
Devendra Fadnavis, the home minister and deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, told reporters that although Mohol was killed by his own gang, it was not a gang war.
“As our government knows how to deal with such notorious elements, no one dares to get involved in a gang war,” he stated.
The police official said that nine teams have been established as part of the investigation.
