Hemant Soren Moves Supreme Court Challenging His Arrest, Plea To Be Heard Tomorrow

Hemant Soren, the leader of JMM, filed a case in the Supreme Court on Thursday contesting his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with money laundering.
On Friday, a bench that included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra in addition to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud decided to hear the former chief minister of Jharkhand’s appeal.

Soren’s attorneys, senior Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, informed the Supreme Court that the leader would be rescinding his appeal from the Jharkhand High Court.

After stepping down as Jharkhand chief minister and being replaced by party loyalist and state transport minister Champai Soren, Soren was taken into custody on Wednesday night in connection with the case.

Following an extensive seven-hour interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate, he was placed under arrest.
