Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, a communication and electronic warfare expert, took over as the 26th Navy head on Tuesday, succeeding R. Hari Kumar, who resigned.
Admiral Tripathi, a Sainik School Rewa alumni, was the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff before gaining command of the force.
Admiral Tripathi was born on May 15, 1964, and was commissioned into the Indian Navy’s executive branch on July 1, 1985.
He has been a communication and electronic warfare expert for almost 39 years, serving with distinction.
Prior to becoming Vice Chief of the Navy, he was Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
Admiral Tripathi has commanded the Indian naval ships Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul.
He has also held several significant operational and staff positions, including fleet operations officer of the Western Fleet, director of naval operations, principal director of network-centric operations, and principle director of naval planning.
As Rear Admiral, he was the flag officer in command of the eastern fleet.
He also served as commandant of the famous Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala.
Admiral Tripathi, a graduate of the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, has also completed training at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the Naval Higher Command Course in Karanja, and the Naval Command College in the United States.
He has received both the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Nau Sena Medal (NM).
Admiral Hari Kumar departed from his four-decade service after reaching superannuation.
