The national capital’s water crisis has prompted Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi to continue her indefinite fast, which is entering its second day. Atishi declared via video message from the site of her “Jal Satyagrah” in south Delhi’s Bhogal that she would not eat anything until Haryana supplies more water for the city’s residents. “Get the rightful share of water from Haryana, which will quench the thirst of 28 lakh people,” the speaker stated. The minister claims that although Haryana provides 613 MGD of the 1005 MGD of water that Delhi receives, it has only been releasing 513 MGD over the previous few weeks.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was given bail in the excise policy issue by a trial court judgment, but the Delhi High Court on Friday put an interim hold on that decision. The Delhi CM is still in judicial custody and the HC is anticipated to render a decision by June 25. Special Judge Niyay Bindu denied ED’s request to postpone the bail ruling for 48 hours, and on Wednesday, June 20, the trial court granted the AAP supremo release. Following this, the ED had earlier today filed a challenge in the Delhi High Court against Kejriwal’s regular bail.
In a money laundering case pertaining to the Delhi excise policy issue that is being looked at independently by the CBI as well, Kejriwal was detained by the ED three months ago. After being detained on March 21, he left Tihar Prison on temporary release to participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign and turned himself in on June 2. Kejriwal was allegedly “directly involved in the formulation” of the now-canceled Delhi excise policy, which was created “considering the favours to be granted to the ‘South Group,'” according to the ED. This group, it was claimed, was given unrestricted access, undue favours, stakes in multiple retail zones and established wholesale businesses, and payments totaling Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders in exchange.
