Parliament Session 2024: Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP and its ideological guru RSS while making his debut statement in the legislature as Leader of the People (LoP). He held a copy of the Constitution and pictures of religious leaders.
New Delhi: The stage is set for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expected reaction following Rahul Gandhi’s intense address in Parliament yesterday, during which he launched a withering attack on the BJP (many of which have been removed from official records).
Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh all made repeated comments in response to Mr. Gandhi’s harsh criticism in the House.
During the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to a joint session of Parliament, there was a contentious debate. Parts of Mr. Gandhi’s remarks were removed from the official record because it caused controversy.
There have been demands for an apologies from Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah after the BJP accused Mr. Gandhi of characterizing the whole Hindu population as aggressive. “This is a really severe matter. It’s a big matter to call the Hindu community as a whole violent, PM Modi stated.
Aware of the Congress’s past activities during the Emergency and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Home Minister Shah dismissed Mr. Gandhi’s right to speak on non-violence and sought an apology from him, accusing him of insulting millions of Hindus.
The head of the Congress charged that the BJP was undermining the Constitution and abusing its power to target him.
In addition, Mr. Gandhi attacked a number of government initiatives in his address, including the NEET-UG medical admission test as one that unfairly favors rich students over deserving ones. He called for more rewards and respect for military members and criticized the Agniveer plan.
Even with his pointed critiques, Mr. Gandhi called for harmony and productive discussion to end his speech. He pleaded with the BJP to see the opposition as allies rather than rivals in the process of constructing the nation.
The day’s discussions continued in the Rajya Sabha, where BJP lawmakers repeatedly objected to Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress and Leader of the Opposition, for referring to Prime Minister Modi’s “divisive” campaign speeches.
Press conferences were held by both sides to deliver their stories. BJP leaders Sudhanshu Trivedi and Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kiren Rijiju criticized Mr. Gandhi’s comments. In order to support Mr. Gandhi’s remarks and continue criticizing the ruling party, Congress leaders called their own conference.
It is anticipated that Prime Minister Modi would address the charges directly in his next speech. After taking power for a third term in a row, PM Modi will be making his first speech to the parliamentary party of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) during this session.
