1944

During the Second World War, the German Army and the Soviet Leningrad Front engaged in an eight-day fight for control of Estonia’s Narva Isthmus. German forces won the conflict handily.

1963

Phoolan Devi, often known as “Bandit Queen,” was an Indian woman whose unusual and contentious life story brought her widespread notoriety. On August 10, 1963, she was born in a small Indian village in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

When Phoolan Devi was married off at an early age and suffered maltreatment, her life took a drastic turn. She finally joined a gang of thieves in an effort to exact revenge for the wrongs she had experienced. Targeting upper-caste people and communities she saw to be oppressors, she led the gang in a number of high-profile robberies and other illegal actions.

2008

On August 10, 2008, American super-star swimmer Michael Phelps won the 400-meter individual medley at the Beijing Olympics with a time that set a new world record of 4:03.84.

2015

On August 10, 2015, Google announced its reorganisation as Alphabet, a holding corporation that includes Google, YouTube, Android, and Chrome as subsidiaries.
