New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted an organ transplant racket and arrested about 7 people including a doctor of Apollo Hospital. Delhi Police said that the people involved in this racket had links with Bangladesh. They used to charge Rs 25-30 lakh for each transplant. Both the donor and the receiver were from Bangladesh. They were running the organ racket since 2019.
Organ transplants done in Noida hospital
According to the information, last week, Delhi Police arrested 50-year-old doctor Vijaya Kumari of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi in connection with the organ transplant racket case in Bangladesh and India. Police said that Dr. Vijaya Kumari is currently suspended. She was the only doctor working with the entire gang and had done about 15-16 transplants at the private Yatharth Hospital in Noida during 2021-23.
Bangladeshi national also arrested
Records show that in the alleged racket, patients from Bangladesh were called for organ transplant in prominent hospitals in Delhi by a network of middlemen, Kumari and her associates. Apart from Dr Kumari, three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested last month.
Fake documents were also prepared
In this racket, the accused had also prepared fake documents in the name of Bangladesh High Commission. According to sources, the police have also seized these fake documents. Dr. Vijaya Kumari is among the senior doctors. She joined Apollo Hospital 15 years ago as a junior doctor. Along with this, Dr. Kumari was working with the hospital as a visiting consultant at Yatharth Hospital, Noida.
