Delhi election: Anurag Thakur says Arvind Kejriwal will be ‘stumped’, ‘clean bowled’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur predicted on Friday that Delhi residents would decisively defeat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the upcoming assembly election on February 5.

“Arvind Kejriwal is set to be ‘stumped’ and ‘clean bowled,’ as the people demand clean drinking water, clean air, and a pollution-free Yamuna,” Thakur remarked during his campaign for the BJP, the primary rival of the AAP in Delhi.

Thakur, a former Union Sports Minister and ex-cricketer for Himachal Pradesh, previously served as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), showcasing his strong ties to the sport.

The BJP leader also referred to the AAP as “aapda” (disaster), a term originally coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that AAP had failed women in Delhi, stating, “The people of ‘aapda’ are anti-women and have betrayed the women of Delhi. Even their current chief minister, Atishi, is absent from their hoardings.” Atishi, Delhi’s third female Chief Minister, succeeded Arvind Kejriwal in September following his unexpected resignation.

Thakur further criticized Kejriwal for being under Punjab Police’s protection, questioning, “Why is he listed under Z+ security in Punjab when he is neither the CM nor holds any position in the state?”

The upcoming election in Delhi is shaping up to be a two-way contest between the ruling AAP, which has been in power since December 2013 after ousting Congress, and the BJP, which has been out of power in the capital for nearly three decades. The votes will be counted on February 8.
