2,151 New Covid cases have been reported in India, the highest since October of last year.

According to data from the Union health ministry updated on Wednesday, India recorded 2,151 new Covid-19 instances in the space of 24 hours amid concerns over a recent uptick in infections in the nation. On October 28 of last year, there were a total of 2,208 instances. The statistics updated at 8 am showed that the number of deaths associated with Covid has risen to 5,30,848 – three reported by Maharashtra, one by Karnataka, and three reconciled by Kerala.

The weekly positivity was estimated at 1.53%, and the everyday positivity was 1.51 percent. 4.47 crore cases of Covid were reported in total. (4,47,09,676). According to the ministry website, the ongoing caseload, which stands at 11,903, makes up 0.03 percent of all infections at this time, while the recovery rate is now 98.78 percent.

The increase in Covid cases has led officials to review the level of preparation, and on Monday, Rajesh Bhushan, the Union health secretary, presided over a high-level meeting with States and UTs via video conference. The review conference also included Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research, and Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog. He emphasized the need to intensify testing by using whole genome sequencing and an increased percentage of RT-PCR for positive data.

At a review conference led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, Bhushan gave an in-depth presentation on the state of Covid-19 worldwide. When India had been reporting fewer than 1,000 instances per day on average, the prime minister was informed about the increase in Covid cases.
