The record label of K-pop artist Moonbin has revealed that he passed away at the age of 25.
His manager discovered him unconscious at his flat in Seoul on Wednesday night, according to police, who were cited by South Korean media.
Police stated that although it “appears he took his own life, an autopsy is being reviewed to determine the exact cause of death.”
In a tribute, his label Fantiago claimed Moonbin “unexpectedly left our world and became a star in the sky.”
Before joining the well-known boy band Astro in 2016 at the age of 18, Moonbin had worked as an actor and a model.
He had been playing in a duo with another Astro member Sanha since 2020. In the midst of a global tour, Moonbin & Sanha gave their final performance on April 8 in Bangkok.
All of Astro’s members are expected to reunite in Seoul on Thursday for Moonbin’s wake, according to the label Fantiago.
A request to “refrain from speculative and malicious reports” was also made in the label’s statement so that Moonbin’s family may pay their respects privately.
Moon Sua, Moobin’s sister and a member of the girl group Billlie, is a K-pop singer as well. The siblings had already discussed their reliance on one another in open interviews.
The most recent K-pop celebrity to pass away in recent years is Moonbin.
Goo Hara, a singer and actress, was discovered dead in her Seoul home in 2019. In the same year, her close friend and K-pop artist Sulli committed suicide following a protracted battle with internet bullying.
Minwoo of the boy band 100% passed away at home in 2018, and his label simply stated that he had had a heart attack.
One of the largest boy bands in South Korea, SHINee, lost its lead singer Jonghyun in 2017.
Of all developed nations, South Korea has the highest rate of teen suicide, and while the nation’s overall suicide rate is declining, the number of people dying in their 20s is increasing.
The government is making an effort to significantly lower the high suicide rate that plagues Korea’s hypercompetitive society.
Before eventually joining Astro, Moonbin enrolled in the Fantagio’s training programme as a youngster. Six performers made up the initial ensemble before one left in February 2023.
Astrohas, or Astro fans, have been grieving Moonbin’s passing. He was regarded as the boy band’s most renowned dancer and was well-known as an all-around performer.
