Ex-PM Deve Gowda: “Show Me A Party Which Hasn’t Associated With BJP”

Deve Gowda, the head of the Janata Dal (Secular) and a former prime minister, seems to be undecided about joining the opposition coalition to challenge the BJP in the 2024 elections.

“Show me one party that has not, either directly or indirectly, ties to the BJP. When asked about Nitish Kumar’s efforts to unite non-BJP parties in Bihar, Deve Gowda responded, “Show me one party in the entire country, and then I will reply.

At a news conference on Tuesday at JP Bhavan in Bengaluru, Deve Gowda remarked, “Show me if there is any party in this nation that is not working with the BJP. I’ll then discuss the opposition parties’ cooperation. All of the parties have partnered with the BJP either directly or indirectly. They also include a few Congress party leaders.

The JD(S) party, he continued, is unconcerned about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Elections for the BBMP, Taluk Panchayat, and Zilla Panchayat are now scheduled. How many and which constituencies to run in the Lok Sabha elections will be chosen based on the level of public support the party receives in these polls, he said.

He claimed that the party had not made a decision when asked about the opposition parties uniting for the 2024 elections. We haven’t made a decision. The party needs to be strengthened in preparation for the local body elections, he said.

When questioned whether he will run in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, he responded that he would not.

“I’m 91 years old right now. The issue of running in the Lok Sabha elections is no longer relevant. Who will run is decided by the party. Workers in the party should not give up after the assembly elections’ failure. At every level, the party organisation will change. Our next objective is to rebuild the party,” he stated.
