Days after his arrest for allegedly accepting money from a phoney antique vendor, Kerala’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has opened an investigation into state Congress head K Sudhakaran in a case involving the theft of school funds.
The investigating agency has written the former state minister a notice requesting information regarding the wages his wife Smitha received from the school where she worked starting in 2001. The wife of Mr. Sudhakaran received a notice from the agency requesting information about her pay.
The revelation is predicated on Prasanth Babu, a former driver of KPCC Chief Mr. Sudhakaran, who had filed a charge against Sudhakaran two years prior in 2021, alleging misuse of money raised for the purchase of a school in the Kannur district.
On Monday, Mr. Sudhakaran paid a visit to Rahul Gandhi in Delhi along with the head of the opposition, V. D. Satheesan.
The meeting served as a forum for the Kerala unit of Congress to update the national leadership. Rahul Gandhi and I spoke about concerns relating to the CM Pinarayi Vijayan government’s vengeful attitude towards opposition party leaders and organisational issues.
Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, was also harshly criticised by the Congress, which claimed that the pair had shown “they are not a worthy ally for anyone in the fight against the fascist rule in the country.”
In a separate investigation, Mr. Sudhakaran was detained on suspicion of collecting money from fictitious antiques merchant Monson Mavunkal.
The CPI(M) party secretary Sitaram Yechury, Congress heavyweights Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge attended a united Opposition meeting in Patna just hours before Mr. Sudhakaran was arrested on June 23. The purpose of the gathering was to develop a strategy for a broad front against the BJP at the federal level.
However, Mr. Sudhakaran was later released on bail in accordance with a High Court interim bail ruling.
