Trinamool Congress leader Santanu Sen, who previously raised concerns about the principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered last week, has alleged that he has been removed from his position as the party’s spokesperson. On Friday, Sen stated that he neither spoke against the party nor any leader and claimed that he learned about his removal through the media.
Sen, who is also a doctor, expressed his discontent, lamenting that “a dedicated and loyal party member has to face this” while defectors receive respect. He reiterated his criticisms of the hospital and its principal, who has since resigned, asserting that “accurate information” is being withheld from Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“I stand by what I said from the beginning—news related to the Health Department is not being accurately conveyed to the CM and Health Minister Mamata Banerjee,” Sen said, noting that several complaints had been lodged against the principal over the past three years.
While acknowledging the development efforts by Mamata Banerjee’s government in every medical college across the state, Sen emphasized that this particular principal has been surrounded by controversy.
Despite his grievances, Sen reaffirmed his loyalty to the party, stating, “I have fought as a soldier in all TMC battles, and I continue to do so. I was with TMC and will remain with TMC,” as he told news agency ANI.
The brutal rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor at the Kolkata medical college have sparked national outrage, with protesters accusing the police and the ruling Trinamool government of attempting to cover up the incident and protect the accused.
