On Odisha Day, Monday, President Droupadi Murmu wished greetings to the state’s resilient citizens, pointing out their significant contribution to the growth of both Odisha and the nation.
Known as ‘Utkala Dibasa’ or Odisha Day, it commemorates the day in 1936 that Odisha became a separate state. The division of the provinces of Orissa and Bihar resulted in the state being divided. In 2011, Orissa was renamed as Odisha.
“Hearty greetings on Odisha Day to all! Odisha’s rich cultural legacy and abundant natural resources are well-known. This state’s resilient citizens have significantly contributed to the growth of both Odisha and the nation.
“Odisha has produced many icons over the centuries, including several makers of modern India. May Lord Jagannath bless the state and its people with greater success and prosperity!” she said in a post on X.
