Swimmer Shoan Ganguly and shotputter Anupriya win medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

At the current Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad, India’s Shoan Ganguly and Anupriya Valliyot Sasi won silver and bronze medals in the boys’ 400-meter individual medley swimming event and the girl’s shot put, respectively.

Ganguly finished second to Reece Grady of England (4:24:16) with the greatest Indian time of 4:25.47, and Evan Davidson of Scotland took third place with a time of 4:25.68.

Ganguly beat Aryan Nehra’s record-breaking time of 4:27:62 from the Nationals earlier this month.

The “Best Indian Time” is the quickest time recorded by an Indian swimmer, and when a timing is set at the National Aquatic Championships, it is regarded as a national meet record.

Anupriya finished third in the girl’s shotput competition, behind Australia’s Xylavene Beale (16.31) and South Africa’s Alicia Eli Khunou (17.97), with a throw of 15.62 metres in her third try.

In the field events, Khunou’s performance set a Commonwealth Youth Games record.

Ridhima Kumar Veerendra (30.04) placed eighth in the women’s 50-meter backstroke, among other results.

A team of eight athletes from India participated in the seventh iteration of the competition, which will end on August 11.

The COVID-19 epidemic, scheduling conflicts with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and Birmingham’s 2022 Commonwealth Games caused the games to be postponed from August 1–7, 2021, as they had originally been planned.
