On Friday, Mumbai welcomed the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC). The musical theatre production Civilization to Nation: The Journey of Our Nation added unique touches to the evening. According to a press release, with Civilization to Nation, “acclaimed Indian playwright and director Feroz Abbas Khan will bring together a sensory narrative of Indian culture told through the tenets of the classical Natya Shastra, the ancient Sanskrit treatise on the performing arts. This dramatic showcase boasts over 700 performers and features art forms such as dance, music and puppetry.” On April 1 and 2, respectively, there will be a costume exhibition called India in Fashion and a group art exhibition called Sangam Confluence.
The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) is an ambitious piece of land, a brass-and-glass behemoth that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a James Bond movie, and equipped with all the newest entertainment-related technology. The centre has a three-story art museum, a smaller, 150-seat experimental theater, and a larger, 250-seat studio theatre. The Grand Theatre, so called because it was once covered in splendour equal to that of any historical landmark, is about to welcome visitors for the first time with Feroz Abbas Khan’s visionary production of “The Great Indian Musical: A Musical Odyssey.”
Salman Khan, Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan, Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, and Saif Ali Khan were among the Indian film industry celebrities who attended the inauguration. The grand opening was witnessed by Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, and their daughter Malti Marie, who arrived in Mumbai on Friday. Among the attendees were the Hollywood stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Gigi Hadid and Penelope Cruz, as well as the French fashion designer Christian Louboutin and the artist Jeff Koons.
Talking about NMACC, Isha Ambani said, “The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre is so much more than a space – it is the culmination of my mother Nita Ambani’s passion for arts, culture, and her love for India. She has always dreamt of creating a platform that would be welcoming to audiences, artists, performers, and creatives at large. Her vision for NMACC is to showcase the best of what India has to offer to the world and bring the world to India.”
