Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai: At high tide, around 2:00 pm, 4.4-meter sea waves are predicted.
In the past 24 hours, Mumbai and the neighboring areas have seen intense rains, which have caused widespread flooding and disrupted suburban rail services. Over 300 mm of rain fell in certain parts of the city in six hours on Monday between 1 and 7 a.m.
Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and the Konkan belt are under an orange alert, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With over 315 mm of rain reported in the past 24 hours, the maximum rainfall was experienced in Vikhroli at the Veer Savarkar Marg Municipal School and MCMCR Powai.
The rain has caused the cancellation of almost 50 flights. A number of airlines alerted travelers about the need to check flight status before heading to the airport via X, formerly known as Twitter.
Images captured from various parts of the city saw vehicles parked side by side on Mumbai roadways and individuals wading through waist-deep floods. Every public, private, and municipal school and college in the city has been closed.
On flooded rails, passengers were waiting for trains at Dombivli station. There have been reports of water-logging from Vidyavihar Railway Station, Worli, Buntara Bhavan, Kurla East, King’s Circle, Mumbai, and Dadar. Every day, more than 30 lakh commuters travel by suburban local trains in Mumbai and the nearby cities of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad.
According to reports, soil filled the rails between Atgaon and Thansit stations, slowing rail traffic on the major Kalyan-Kasara line, causing train services between Kasara and Titwala stations in the Thane district to be halted. The authority stated that the rails were deemed dangerous at around 630 am.
Waterlogging will halt if the rain pauses for more than two hours, according to officials, but the meteorological office has forecast heavy rain throughout day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Mumbai will have severe to extremely heavy rains today. 4.4-meter sea waves are predicted during high tide, which is about 2:00 pm.
49 people were saved by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from a swamped resort in Thane, Maharashtra, and 16 peasants in Palghar. They rescued guests who were stuck at the resort because of floods by using boats and life jackets.
