A speeding SUV collided with a pick-up truck early this morning in Guwahati, Assam, killing seven engineering students and injuring six more.
The Jalukbari flypast in the city is not far from the accident site. The pick-up truck was coming from the opposite side when the fast SUV crossed over the road divider, according to the police.
Police discovered that there were ten too many people inside the Scorpio SUV. The pick-up truck and SUV were completely destroyed, demonstrating how severe the collision was.
“The speeding Scorpio SUV lost control and collided with a Bolero pick-up truck,” said a police officer. The occupants were students of Assam Engineering College and stayed at the hostel, the officer said.
“Out of the 10 students in the vehicle, seven died on the spot,” the police officer said. The injured include three students and three passengers of the pick-up truck. They have been admitted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, police said.
Imon Baruah from Dibrugarh, Kaushik Mohan from Sivasagar, Arindam Bhuwal from Guwahati, Niyor Deka from Guwahati, Upangshu Sarma from Nagaon, Rajkiran Bhuyan from Majuli, and Kaushik Baruah from Mangaldoi have all been named as the deceased pupils.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has expressed sorrow over the deaths. “Extremely distressed by the loss of young, priceless lives in the Jalukbari traffic disaster. My sincere condolences go out to their families and parents. have talked to GMCH authorities. Those who have been hurt are receiving all available medical care, the Chief Minister tweeted.
This morning, the Chief Minister also went to the scene of the accident.
