Ajit Doval’s stern words during a meeting with a diplomat from China: “Trust Eroded”

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval told top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Friends of BRICS meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Monday that the situation along the LAC, India’s de facto border, in the Western Sector of the India-China boundary since 2020 had eroded strategic trust and the public and political basis of the relationship between the two countries.

Wang Yi is the Director of the Office of the CPC Foreign Affairs Commission and a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Political Bureau. He and Mr. Doval are the designated representatives of their nation in the boundary negotiations. India and China held their most recent border talks at the special representative level in 2019.

According to reports, NSA Doval stressed the significance of ongoing efforts to thoroughly settle the situation and restore calm and peace in the border regions in order to remove obstacles to regular bilateral ties.

According to Wang Yi, the two sides should prioritise cooperation and consensus, remove barriers, and put bilateral ties back on the path of sound and stable growth as soon as possible, according to China’s official news agency Xinhua. He reportedly emphasised that China will never pursue hegemony and that it is prepared to collaborate with other developing nations, including India, to support multilateralism, democratise international relations, and advance the growth of an international order that is more just and equitable.

The two sides concurred that the bilateral relationship between China and India is important for the globe as well as the two nations themselves.

Days prior, Mr. Wang and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met in Jakarta, Indonesia, to discuss unresolved matters pertaining to peace and tranquilly in border regions.

For more than three years, India and China have been involved in a military standoff that Mr. Jaishankar has called the most difficult challenge of his extensive diplomatic career.

India has insisted that peace in the border region is a need for the normalisation of the two countries’ relations.

At the Friends of BRICS gathering earlier on Monday, Ajit Doval urged teamwork to address issues arising from cybersecurity. The NSA also conducted numerous bilateral meetings with his BRICS country counterparts and friends.

The BRICS Summit will be held in South Africa next month.

Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa are together known as BRICS.
