India Retaliates After Pakistan’s Drone and Missile Attacks

In a significant escalation of tensions, India has launched a precision retaliatory strike against Pakistani military targets following an overnight offensive by Pakistan on May 7–8. According to official statements from the Indian Armed Forces, the strike specifically targeted Pakistan’s air defence infrastructure. Among the locations hit, a key air defence system in Lahore was reported to have been neutralised.

The response came after Pakistan attempted a large-scale assault using drones and missiles aimed at multiple Indian military installations. Targeted locations included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda, and Bhuj. India’s Integrated Counter Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Grid and Air Defence mechanisms successfully intercepted and neutralised the incoming threats. Recovery operations for debris are ongoing across several impact sites, confirming the attempted offensive.

Indian defence officials emphasized that the retaliation matched Pakistan’s actions in both domain and intensity. “Our response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan,” the Armed Forces declared.

Meanwhile, ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) have sharply intensified. Pakistani forces have reportedly shelled civilian areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri using mortars and heavy artillery. The attacks have tragically claimed sixteen civilian lives, including three women and five children.

India stated it was “compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt.” Despite the strong countermeasures, the Indian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to preventing further escalation, provided that restraint is equally observed by Pakistan.
