“If Buses Not Stopped On Seeing Women, Then Driver Will Be Suspended”: Atishi

Atishi announced on Monday that DTC and Cluster bus drivers and conductors will be suspended if they don’t pick up women waiting at bus stops.

At a press conference she told Delhi’s women to click the pictures and post on social media so that strict action can be taken against the defaulters.

She said the transport department has issued a circular that all drivers and conductors must stop at bus stops without exception.

“Women in various parts of Delhi have complained that DTC and Cluster buses skip stops if only women are waiting. I want to assure them that Delhi government is committed to ensuring women can travel safely and for free on buses. Women stepping out of their homes directly supports economic growth,” Atishi said.

She added, “An order has been issued, if any driver or conductor doesn’t stop for women he will be suspended. Women can click pictures of such buses and post on social media and action will be taken immediately.”

In a separate statement, Transport Department denied the allegations of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal who said an inquiry is being conducted against Atishi in connection with the free bus ride scheme for women.

Kejriwal had said there was a conspiracy to implicate Atishi falsely and divert attention from AAP’s Delhi Assembly polls campaign. But Transport Department called the allegations “completely baseless and misleading”.
