Woman Beaten, Hair Shaved By Others Because She Couldn’t Repay Loan

In a disturbing incident in the Lalsinghmura area of Bishalgarh, Tripura’s Sepahijala district, a woman was allegedly assaulted and had her head partially shaved by a group of women. The victim was rescued by the Bishalgarh Women Police after they received information about the incident and brought her to the station for safety and initial inquiry.

Inspector Shiuli Das, who is in charge of the Bishalgarh Women Police Station and is investigating the case, revealed that the attack was allegedly carried out by members of a local Self-Help Group (SHG). According to the victim, the assault occurred over a financial dispute involving money her husband had borrowed from the SHG.

The victim described the traumatic incident, stating that around 15-20 women entered her home while she was in the kitchen. After a brief conversation regarding her travel plans, the group allegedly dragged her outside, rebuked her, physically assaulted her, and shaved half of her head. The attackers reportedly demanded the immediate repayment of the money owed by her husband to the SHG.

Police have filed a suo motu case against 20-21 unidentified individuals under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 74 for outraging a woman’s modesty, Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 3(5) for common intention.
