DK Shivakumar, the leader of the Congress, broke down today as counting trends pointed to a significant victory for his party in Karnataka. According to Mr. Shivakumar, he “promised Sonia Gandhi that I will deliver Karnataka.”
“I promised to deliver Karnataka, I told Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge. I will never forget Sonia Gandhi visiting me in prison, said Mr. Shivakumar, 61.
The head of the Karnataka Congress, who is competing for the position of Chief Minister, declared: “The Congress office is our shrine. Our next course of action will be decided at the Congress office.
He added that it had been three years since he had slept. “I would like to thank Sonia Gandhi, my leader. She expressed trust in me. I haven’t slept a wink since that day,” he claimed.

His primary opponent in the contest to become chief minister is 75-year-old Siddaramaiah.

The incumbent BJP admitted loss and declared it will run again in the Lok Sabha elections the following year.
“Despite the PM and BJP activists’ extensive efforts, we were unable to make a significant impact. We’ll conduct a thorough analysis after the whole results are received. Outgoing Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who had earlier expressed confidence in a BJP victory, stated, “We take this defeat in our stride to come back in Lok Sabha elections.
